Common Note-taking methods + Note-taking tips

Welcome back to StudyWithMe! In this post, I'm gonna be sharing some common note-taking methods plus some note-taking tips. I really hope you will enjoy this post and like it.

Happy reading :)

1. The Cornell Method

The Cornell method provides a systematic format for organizing notes without laborious recopying. After writing the notes in the main space, use the left-hand space to label each idea and detail with a key word. The example is shown below.

2. The Outline Method

The information which is most general begins at the left with each more specific group of facts indented with spaces to the right. The relationships between the different parts are carried out through indenting. No numbers, letters, or Roman numerals are needed.

3.  The Mapping Method

Mapping is a method that uses comprehension/concentration skills and evolves in a note-taking form which relates each fact or idea to every other fact or idea. Mapping is a graphic representation of the content of a lecture. It is a method that maximizes active participation, affords immediate knowledge as to its understanding, and emphasizes critical thinking.

4. The Charting Method

If the lecture format is distinct, you may set up your paper by drawing columns and labeling appropriate headings in a table.

5. The Sentence Method

Write every new thought, fact or topic on a separate line, numbering as you progress.

NOTE-TAKING TIPS

Here are some of the note-taking tips which I would like to share.

1. Note down all the IMPORTANT concepts

Now here, writing down all the important terms DOES NOT mean that you should just copy everything. You can write down things which you feel are important.

2. Use symbols and abbreviations

Using abbreviations and symbols can make the note-taking process more efficient. Don't worry about completing sentences, grammar or handwriting. After completing the notes, you can note the symbols and abbreviations, in order to not forget what you wrote 😅.

3. Write the long answers in points

If you write down the long answers in paragraphs, you may not remember the content well. Less chances are shown to remember these types of answers in this form. So, what I suggest you to do is that you can write down the long answers in POINTS.

4, Highlight/Underline

Again, don't highlight the whole page 😅, just highlight only the important points. Also, don't make your notes overcoloured..

5. Use diagrams

Remember, we learn better through pictures right? That is exactly what is happening over here. If you draw diagrams, you will be able to understand the content in just a glance!

So, that's all for now from me. Hope to see you next time in another post. Feel free to contact me for any queries or suggestions to blogs.studywithme@gmail.com
